Choquekirao
(4 days/ 3 nights)
Choquekiraw appears to have been an Inca city with scattered and fascinating sectors. The different parts seem to have diverse functions and communicated with the main square by a series of footpaths. The main square has a ceremonial character and also two different living levels. You can see temples of the sun and of the earth, residences, sleeping rooms for Mitimaes (indentured workers to the Incas) and farmers´ residences. The remains of the monument show that the city was suddenly abandoned. Choquekiraw is made all the more special by its location – overlooking one of the deepest canyons in the world – the Apurimac.
ITINERARY
Day 1:
At 5.30 you will be picked up from your hotel. You will travel by local bus to the village of Cachora. This trip of 4 hours is the start of the big adventure! We arrive at Cachora at approximately 10 a.m. and there we will prepare ourselves for the trek by putting our backpacks and all equipment on the pack mules. After that, we are going to walk for approximately 6 hours. During the hike we will enjoy a nice lunch at a place called Capulioc. Then we will hike to the Rosalinas bridge over the Apurimac River, which is situated 1500 meters above sea level. We camp here on the first night.

Day 2:
We will leave Rosalinas Bridge, heading in the direction of the next camping site called Sunchupata. Along the trail we will observe a change of vegetation and climate. Our hike takes us to 2900 meters above sea level. We will have lunch in Maranpata and will continue the hike until we reach Sunchupata.

Day 3:
Rising early from Sunchupata, we will walk 4 to 5 hours until we finally reach Choquekiraw. We will have lunch and the whole rest of the day to visit these fantastic archeological ruins. After fully exploring the ruins, we will return to our campsite at Sunchupata to camp there a second night.

Day 4:
On our final day we will hike back along the same route from Sunchupata to Cachora. In Cachora there will be a bus waiting to take us back to Cusco.
